WHAT IS HEMP?
Hemp, or industrial hemp, is a strain of the C. Sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. It is one of the fastest growing plants and was one of the first plants to be spun into usable fibre 10,000 years ago. It can be refined into a variety of commercial items, including food, paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel and animal feed.
In recent years, CBD oil (Cannabidiol oil) has gained popularity as a natural remedy for many common ailments.
WHAT ARE TERPENES?
Terpenes are a large class of organic compounds produced by plants. They are the scent bearing, primary constituents of the essential oil component of many Medicinal plants and flowers. They are the subject of increasing interest by researchers in regards to their potential therapeutic and medicinal application
Today, terpenes are being investigated for their stand alone therapeutic effects, in particular their anti inflammatory, analgesic (pain relieving) and mood enhancing qualities.
Scientific studies have shown that taking Terpenes may help with many conditions such as Pain, Inflammation, Anxiety, Depression and many other conditions.
As well as their potentiating and synergistic properties when taken as an adjunct to CBD therapy.
Fact: Terpenes stimulate your endocannabinoid system & activates your CB2 receptors.
HOW DO TERPENES WORK?
- Terpenes act on receptors and neurotransmitters in the body
- They are prone to combine with or dissolve in lipids or fats
- They act as serotonin uptake inhibitors (similar to antidepressants like Prozac)
- They enhance nor epinephrine activity (similar to tricyclic antidepressants like Elavil)
- They increase dopamine activity; and they augment GABA (the “downer” neurotransmitter that counters glutamate, the “upper”)
THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM KNOWN AS (ECS)
- ECS is one of the most important systems in our body.
- ECS refers to a collection of cell receptors and corresponding molecules.
- Receptors can be seen as locks, the keys to these locks can be found in chemical molecules called Agonists or Ligands.
- The agonists bind to cells, relaying messages and giving the cell a specific direction.
- The cell receptors found in the ECS respond to certain types of agonists.
- An agonist is a substance that initiates a physiological response when combined with a receptor.
- The two main Endocannabinoid molecules are 2AG and Anandamide.
- Anandamide is considered the bliss module, Its released when we feel good and happy
- Anandamide has an affinity for the CB1 receptor and partially binds to CB2.
- 2AG has a slight affinity for CB2 receptor and works on certain enzymes in the ECS system, sometimes controlling Anandamide by clearing it out of the system and directly it elsewhere
